How to Size Ring Wax Patterns

Step 1. Place the wax pattern on a ring mandrel.

Step 2. Turn the wax pattern to the bottom side of the shank.

Step 3. Using an exacto knife or mold cutting knife and cut the bottom of the ring.

Step 4. Slide the wax pattern to the size you need.

If you need  to go to  a smaller size than the original wax, move the pattern to the size you need and cut out the excess, and then melt the wax back together using a wax pen or similar tool

If you have gone to a larger size than the original wax you can add wax by melting and blending in wax  using a wax pen or similar tool.

You can also use a wax band and cut a section out and then add it to the open area, melt and blend in using a wax pen or similar tool.

Ring sizing bands can be cut into small sections and then spliced into your ring shank. mm widths 2-10mm. Available in sizing kit below. Makes sizing rings easier. But melting some wax works just as well, just takes a little more time.

Once wax is blended in, use 150 grit sandpaper to sand and shape your wax before spruing

Waxes with an intricate design going around the ring can be sized to a larger size by

 cutting a section from another wax pattern of the same design

and then "splicing" it in using a wax pen or similar tool.
